Need some ideas for holiday summer 2011

We are a family of 2 adults, 1 DD (11) and 1 DS (8).Have just decided to team up with friends (a couple, no kids)for a summer holiday in 2011.

We all went to rge Dordogne staying in a cottage in the country last July and had a great time.

Wonder if anyone has any suggestions for destinations in Europe that we can drive to (prepared to do an overnight stop on the way and back), preferably with beach.

Thanks

eurocamp keycam?

Was thinking more of a cottage/Gite and not in a place surrounded by other families because of our friends.

This place (which admittedly is a keycamp-type place but very nice) also has some gites tucked away from the main area. Something along those lines might be good - lots of things for your dcs to do but your friends don't need to be in the midst of it all if they don't want to & lots of nice beaches & other things to do in the area...

Have you been there yourself?

Yes I've been there 3 times, stayed in a mobile home but have walked past the gites & they look nice from the outside. I really like the area - about 15 minutes from the coast so feels a bit more upmarket away from all the touristy places, iyswim. Lots to do on the site - horse-riding, woods to walk in as well as the usual stuff. If you decide to go there you would need to book asap though as they are already booked up for some weeks next summer.

I'm sure there are similar places elsewhere too.

Brittany, Normandy, Ile de Re, close to Barcelona or San Sebastin to start with.

I've been there twice too and it's great. Not brash like some of the coastal places. Vendee beaches are great. They have horse riding, archery, fishing lake etc .

Have a look into Tenerife.
It has everything you could need for a great family holiday and all year round warmth.

If you need some ideas of hotels, areas etc, please let me know as i live and work on the island and would be happy to help.
