can you do Chartres Cathedral on a day trip from Paris?

.....has anyone done this? Is it too far and did it leave enough time?

Did you go by train or on a coach?

I would hate to miss out on a visit if it is doable (will be in Paris for a few days) - but i'm bad at getting my head around distances.

You can get the train from Montparnasse station it takes about 1 hour. Be warned some of these local SNCF trains can make UK trains look like the orient express others are okay. Usually these kind of tickets are quite well priced.

There used to be an Englishman who did tours and gave a talk - he was good iirc
