Hi,
We are going to Perth at Christmas and wondering what to do with the children. We have been before so done some things but wondered if anyone had some good suggestions?
Thanks

Caversham wildlife park is fantastic. Take a picnic and swimmers as next to the carpark is a picnic area with outdoor play pool. Lots and lots of sunscreen and hats though!

Any beach.

King's Park family area will keep them entertained for hours. Take a picnic!

The Aquarium.

Hillaries boat harbour.

Pengiun Island.

Rottnest Island.

The zoo

There is a great park at Wanneroo - where will you be based?

Nospringflower · 30/10/2010 21:09

Thanks for your suggestions - will look them up. Our friends live at Claremont so were handy for cottesloe beach.

If you are there on Christmas Eve ITV usually have live programmes back to the UK. It will be busy at Cottesloe though but definitely worth a visit. Lovely beach.

Claremont is lovely and central. You will have a lovely time here.

Jut be a bit warned that it will be stinky hot some days so a day by the beach or the pool if your friends have it isn't a bad thing!

A trip to fremantle is ok too.

Rottnest, it mustn't be missed at that time of year.
The aquarium at Hillarys.
King's Park.

My brother emigrated two weeks ago to Perth, and I lived there for two years. It's fantastic at that time of year.
City Beach was my favourite.

Coffee and markets in Freo.

I'd say generally hang around Northbridge and have many nights out, but not so child friendly!

mummycreepynora · 30/10/2010 22:18

Just asked DH who lived there for a while, here's his answers:

go karting
xmas morning on the beach between trig down to cottesloe has a good family feel

he has warned to be careful of the quarka's on rottnest ... they bite! (rabbit sized kangaroos)

AQWA

Kings Park

Perth Zoo

Caversham Wildlife Park

Rockingham Beach

Cottesloe

Fish and Chips at Cicerellos in Freo

Hillaries

Have a lovely time, I have lots of family around Perth so I am really jealous!

My new niece or nephew is due just after Christmas in Perth.

I might even be dragged back out to see him/her.
Perth is beautiful, King's Park is the best place to see it.

Asian food, Vietnamese, and Thai, and Dim Sum, and Seafood.

Food in general, and good coffee.

They know how to make coffee in Perth, and cakes to go with it.

Wow, I can't believe how envious I am.

tefal · 31/10/2010 07:04

They have courses on coffee making at TAFE!

Toodyay is about an hour's drive out of Perth and just the most beautiful old frontier town - was damaged by forest fires last year though so I don't know how badly.

Yanchep National Park is stunning.

Lots of the wineries have play areas and are very child friendly too so if you have time I highly recommend the following:

Jane Brooke
Sandalfords
River Bank - my favourite place in the whole world. You need to book for lunch but stunning place to eat plus area for children to play.
Haughtons
Lancaster

Any of the breweries are good for a visit too.

Nospringflower · 01/11/2010 21:11

Thanks everyone - cant wait and talking about it just makes me look forward to it even more. Will look up these places and definitely go to some of them.
