How much does it cost?

DH is currently trying to persuade me that it is worth paying a heck of a lot of money for a 2-wk hol in Majorca next Aug. It's a private villa and does look lovely but we have never spent anything like it on a holiday, anywhere. I can't get my head around it - but maybe I'm out of touch with prices. What would you consider a reasonable amount to pay for a family of 4 to holiday in Europe peak season (bearing in mind we'll be paying flights and car hire on top)?

We went to the Maldives last August for £3600 all inclusive (flights included) and this was after we got quoted A HELL LOT MORE for a holiday in Europe (one tour agent quoted us £16k for two week in Greece!)! This is for three of us then - DH, me and 1.6 DS1 (DS2 still baking!). It was lovely. We had to pay for some food on top (if we didn't want to eat at the buffet but the food was fabulous really!), massages and DH did three diving courses and we paid £1500 on top of what we already paid. Best family holiday so far. You need to think of how much it will all cost together and see if you think it's worth it. Sometimes, you get much better value out of Europe.

flight 1000, car hire 600ish, apart/villa anything from 800 upwards per week. total 3.2k upwards. though to put this into perspective a mobile home in france can be around 3k for 2 weeks (admittedly expensive crossing and largest home). does seem a lot though doesn't it? I know because i've just booked next years holiday and investigated loads of resorts and flights! we are pushing the boat out a bit next year as its a special holiday and paying 1.5k per week in greece.

We paid just over 2k for 2 weeks in Menorca in August. That was for 2 adults, 2children and a baby staying at a 4* all inclusive.

We have paid similar for Turkey next year. Flying on 18th August for 2 weeks all inc.

peak season? I'd budget about 3k all in... flights, insurance, car hire, villa etc.

enorma are you talking 'villa' as that does seem very cheap?

thelunar - where do you source villas from - again this seems cheap and i'd like to use in future
