Whipsnade - will the monkeys damage thecar?!

Hello everyone,

We are planning to go to Whipsnade and to pay extra to take our car in and around the park. I mentioned to my husband that we could drive through the 'safari' area in our car and he was not keen, as he claimed that the monkeys would scratch the car badly.

Has anyone had experience of this? I think he is being over-cautious (typical of him...!) but I thought I would ask, as we will be taking my new car and I wondered what the extent of any damage might be - if any!

many thanks!

there are no monekeys in the safari area

it's a zoo, not a safari park

are you talking about woburn?

Butterbur · 14/10/2010 13:53

It's a while since I've been to Whipsnade, but I don't remember monkeys being loose in the area you can drive your car round. I don't remember any animals just wandering roung round tbh. I think most of them are in enclosures, some of which can be seen from the road - but not as well as up close. I also think you can have a bus ride round, which is much more fun.

I think it's worth driving your car in and parking it inside though if you have small DCs, as it is a bit of a hike back to the car park from the far side of the park and you always need to be going back to the car for food/spare clothes etc.

You're thinking of Woburn, where they very well might pull bits off your car Grin. Whipsnade has no renegade monkeys!

Agree - Woburn is the place with monkeys with vandalistic intent! although scratching the paintwork is a little extreme - they just like to pull bits off, like windscreen wipers, wing mirrors, that kind of thing.
Or just sit on your roof and poo there (yes, that happened to us)

If you are thinking of Whipsnade and the bit where you drive though fields ('passage thro' Asia'?) there are definately no monkeys, just lots of deer. Quite dull imho compared to other areas of Whipsnade (that may be because we see deer every day where we live though).

Aha! Thanks everyone! I was indeed talking about Whipsnade. So my husband got it wrong with the monkeys then, he started going on about the car being wrecked.

I am pleased that we can take the car in as our son is going through a "pick me up!" phase and so having the car close to move around the park is a great bonus for us.

Thanks for the clarification, much appreciated! My friend is off to Woburn on the weekend, I must warn her....

I know from painful experience that the monkeys at Woburn are very naughty! They ripped the windscrren wiper off our car and it took me ages to get it fixed!

Ilovehotchoc · 15/10/2010 23:01

windscreen

southeastastralbeing · 15/10/2010 23:02

the monkeys aren't loose at whipsnade you you're ok. they let the elephants out though

and those strange things that live in holes on the downs might menace the car
