Thomson flights - advice please

I'm going to Egypt with First Choice at the weekend on a Thomson flight. I haven't booked inflight meals as they're always a bit grim, thought we'd buy sandwiches at the airport. Do they also sell snacks/drinks on the plane? Do they have inflight films?

Have only flown Emirates and Ryanair before and not sure where abouts between the two they are. Smile Thanks.

We just came back on a Thomson flight. They do sell snacks and drinks and show a film but you have to buy the earphones to hear it. The inflight meals were probably the worst I have ever had so you are wise to take sandwiches. x

I think they wanted £22 each for meals as well! Though that may have been for there and back but even so, that would be £11 a meal for a load of slop. Just worried as how the flights fall I think we'll need lunch and dinner. DD doesn't eat sandwiches.......

Thats great thanks. £5 for a meal is reasonable. Will take our own earphones.

One more question (sorry). Egypt is 2 hours infront of the UK (I think). On the way back it says that flight leaves at 21:20 and lands back in UK at 02:10. Would the 21:20 be local time and the 02:10 be UK time?

Thanks. I haven't prebooked seats either, I will get to sit next to DD won't I? Don't care where in the plane we are as long as we're next to each other.

I recently flew with Thomson to Turkey and had prebooked inflight meals for me and DD because of the times the flights fell. They were far far better than BA food that was served on a flight I took to Antigua in April! But, you know, it's airline food however it comes!

My (and DD's) ipod/iphone headphones worked fine so we didn't need to buy a headset.

There were young children on the flight that weren't seated next to their parents, but it was sorted out by the cabin crew (with the cooperation of other passengers) very quickly.

Hello Viva,

We flew to Egypt last Christmas with Thompsons with our 2.4 DD and had such a good time we are going back this year as well.

The DVD player was invaluable for the journey plus we also connected to our tv in the room so DD could get her daily fix of peppa pig.

Flight times were 4 hrs 30 mins on the way out and 6 hrs on the way back which is a fair bit longer than Greece I'm afraid.

We did order meals last time but they weren't great so we haven't bothered this time. Will just have snacks and sandwhiches for us and a picnic of cheese, breadsticks, slices of chorizo and olives for DD. (She is a bit odd - won't eat a sandwich but happilly scoffs down chorizo and olives).

Thanks for the advice. The holiday's actually booked with First Choice but they use Thomson flights.

The DVD player is a very good idea, we have one so will take that and a few DVDs as I think the TV in the room, only English Channel is Sky News so DVDs will also be good for evenings.

We're staying at Aqua Blu in Sharm which looks gorgeous. A friend of mine went a few months ago and raved about it so much I decided to book!

So was ours (although it doesn't make much difference as Thompsons now own First Choice so although they have thompson flight codes you could still get a first choice plane that has yet to be rebranded as Thompsons.

I'd be very surprised if you got sky news in your room. We got BBC news international but there were perhaps half a dozen more english speaking channels such as CNN and a few odd channels that show US programes. We cought showings of Friends, Criminal Minds, CSI etc!

I flew with them when I went skiing and didn't pay for seats together - it was just me and DS1, and he was 4.....

When we checked in all the seats together had gone, but they said it would be sorted by the time we got to the gate, and it was.

Even so I found this all a bit stressful so the next year I just paid for the seats. I have to say this is a bloomin' cheek from the airlines.

Bunbaker · 14/10/2010 17:57

Last time we flew with Thompsons (2 years ago) the food was pretty good. The children's meals also contain a little activity to occupy them.

Also, I suggest you check in early to get a better chance of all sitting together.
