we are considering letting out our frenchfarm house in the south of france and i notice most places only offer selfcatering! as mums would you like to be able to rent a house with a pool where breakfast is prepared and 2/3 evening meals a week and a tidy up service, rather like a ski chalet but in the south of france with sun

any thoughts welcom

Yes

I would, I'm not too bothered about having breakfast prepared but to have someone cook a couple of evening meals would be a big bonus.

Liz, are you on the lay my hat Forum where you can get some info about how and where to promote your house???

Like the idea of having meals as optional. We have stayed at Pagel and Domaine de Peyrecaty both in the Dordogne and they offer evening meals but as extras. They are both gite complexes so they also arrange a BBQ night which is a great way to meet other guests. Peyrecaty offered kids tea around 5.30 (bolognese etc) and meals such as Thai chicken and Coq au Vin at around 8.30 by which time the children would have gone off to play. Wouldn't be fussed about breakfast as we are happy with cereals and baguettes.

We opt for self-catering as my DD is quite fussy so if we eat out at lunch and she only has frites we at least know we can cook something decent in the evening.

When we choose where to stay our criteria in order of importance are : gite complexes so the children have others to play with (and we can relax), pool, a private terrace with table and BBQ, kid friendly i.e. games in the apartment or a playbarn, table tennis and somewhere to play football. We tend to look at Chez Nous first then other sites although next year we are going to La Prairie which we found on the Holiday Rentals site

We were going to try out the South of France this year but couldn't find anything to suit so there is definitely a gap in the market. Have you looked at the Country Kids site? Might be a bigger operation than you are looking for but they offer meals, childcare and days out within their rental cost rather than as extras and seem to do fantastic business.
