on a map?

Ponders · 10/10/2010 21:41

I think most of them have bridges between the 2 sides...where would be roughly midway between you?

PortOutStarboardHome · 10/10/2010 21:41

where abouts on the M1?

FunnysInTheGarden · 10/10/2010 21:43

Leicester Forest East. Why DO YOU ASK?

bellavita · 10/10/2010 21:47

FunnysIn, I was just going to say the same!

FunnysInTheGarden · 10/10/2010 22:04

Watford Gap services, between J16 and J17. They are joined by a footbridge (here

3littlefrogs · 11/10/2010 11:43

LFE is the one where we swap kids and Granny. It is a further from london than Jct 31 though.

Otherwise, if you want to pick one that is equidistant, one of you could easily leave at the jct further on, go round the roundabout and come back to the service st, IYSWIM.

hifi · 11/10/2010 13:32

thanks so much, will look into it

LFE is near junction 20 or 21 and so nearer to London

Poogles · 11/10/2010 14:36

Junction 15 (or 15A) at Northampton. There are services on both sides of the motorway and you can drive over to the other side so if you are swapping kids over with bags etc it is a lot easier as you can park next to each other. Just remember to agree if you are swapping North bound or South bound! Very easy for both parties to get back on the way they need to go.

It is a popular place - we have swapped there before and seen others doing the same!

Surely London to JCT 21 is further than Jct 21 to 31 (i.e. 21 junctions versus 10 junctions - Confused??? Or have I missed something?

Ponders · 11/10/2010 21:23

possibly, but not necessarily, 3lf - distances between junctions are far from equal - urban junctions can be as little as 1 mile apart, rural ones 10 miles or more!

hifi · 11/10/2010 22:03

will have to get it about 85 miles each as sis will winge to everyone she went further!

FunnysInTheGarden · 11/10/2010 22:04

I misunderstood 3LF. I understood you to mean J21 is further from London than J31. I now see you mean that they (from London) would have to travel further. Although as Ponders says, tis not nec the case!

hifi · 11/10/2010 22:14

watford gap is 99.5 miles from me, i think i might take the extra 14.5 miles myself.

I second Poogles - Jct 15a is one of the few where you can both drive your car to the same carpark and then turn round and go back the way you came. Most of the others will mean you ahve to drive on in the wrong direction to get to the next exit to turn round
