And, bearing in mind i'll be returning to an active toddler who missed (hopefully) her mummy - what's the best time to travel to try and avoid jet lag??

Best time is overnight so your 7 month old will sleep meaning you can at least rest. As for jetlag all you can do it try and sleep, keep hydrated and hope for the best.

Singpaore Airlines have a fantastic reputation with children but I'd say given you are going at short notice you really need to chose the airline that can guanrantee or tell you now that they still have bulkhead seats available.

If it were me in your position I'd start with:

Singapore Airlines
BA/Qantas (only if you can get BA on the longhaul bit)
Cathay Pacific
Malaysian
Thai Airlines
Emirates - only if you absolutely have to

and see who has the bulkhead seats available before booking/comparing prices.

Definitely try Singapore Air first -the cabin crew can't do enough for you when you travel with babies/small dcs. They also prioritise small babies for the bassinets so you may still get one, even at this late date.

If you go with Quantas via Singapore then the first leg is likely to be with Singapore Air anyway as they route share.

I've flown to Singapore with them 4 times with various numbers and ages of dcs and they are fantastic.

Singapore Airlines, without a doubt! Your 7mo will fit nicely in the bassinet and they are so good on service - though definitely check out the situation re bulkhead seats.

Tip: if you have a stopover in Singapore, there are showers available in the terminal at Changi airport. Towels and everything provided, so lovely to freshen up. Easy to manage if you have your buggy with you, as you can ask for a family shower room
and just push your buggy in.

The website you need is 'Lucy Loves Australia' which is all about flying back and forth to australia with babies/children.

Sorry Olihan - just to point out that if yu go Qantas they only codeshare with BA - not Singapore so you'd get either a Qantas or BA flight into Singpaore and then Qantas into Australia.

Yes, you're right, I was confusing them with Virgin who codeshare with SIA. So Virgin may also be worth a look, ME.

You are right. I think Virgin fly into Sydney.

Hi,
I always like to fly home for a visit using the Asian airlines. They've always amazing when I fly and I've used them tonnes. Plus have heard from many friends all really great with children as well. When I went home for a visit, (just me & 6 month old) Air NZ had a brilliant deal and I must say, they were fantastic. Ended up with a few glasses of bubbly from business class! It was a great trip there.

The only criticism was on the way back a family sat beside us and they drank, played games and ignored their 2 very angry and loud kids (6months and 3 years) the whole trip. Was very annoying. Be prepared for outside influence. I wasn't!

Have a great time
