We are having a night away (yes one!) in October to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. My parents are having both kids to stay for the first time (1 and nearly 4). We thought of going to Cheltenham as not too far. Been looking on all the websites but they all say different things. Can anyone recommend nice hotel for special night??!

Have heard lots about Hotel Kandinsky (some good, some not) but dont think they will take one night booking as very busy and it will be SAt night).

Thanks a lot

Kandiskys is nice - if you would like a peaceful stay - recommend Greenway Hotel (fabulous food) Kandiskys has its own nightclub which is busy at weekends - and food there is only so-so.

Heard good things about Lypiatt House Hotel which is excellently situated at the top of Monpellier and near to Champignon Sauvage and the Daffodil - great restaurants

Queens hotel is lovely for afternoon tea. There is a "Petit Blanc" restaurant attached as well (one of the Raymond Blanc chain)

I've never stayed at the Queens, but the service for food has always been excellent.

Do you want to stay in Cheltenham itself, or would a bit further afield be ok? Let me know and I will ring friends in Cheltenham and ask. I used to live there myself, but I was a student so I never went anywhere nice!

I live there! Food in Petit Blanc is appaling - shut down for a while and re-opened - not sure its any better though - Queens is OK but would not personally stay there

  • If you really want to push the boat out recommend Cowley Manor - Spa Hotel just outside Cheltenham - really really beautiful - but £++

FIMAC1 - what a shame that Petit Blanc has gone crap! I went there when it first opened, years ago, and it was lovely. They've really missed a chance there!

Thanks for your replies. Would really prefer to be in town centre so can just wander out of the hotel in the evening etc and dont have to get in the car everytime want to go anyway as only got one night. Tried the George hotel but they are only taking booking for two nights at weekend.

Thanks

The Lypiatt is right in the town Centre - well, 1 minute or less walk from Monpellier (where Kadkiskys is located) it really is very, very central! (and in a nice area)

PS Montpellier and the Suffolks area are the 'best' area's of town as far as bars, restaurants etc (imho) - the town centre is all typically Yates, JD Weatherspoons chain-type haunts full of 'youngesters' Recommend Montpellier Wine Bar

Thanks for this info. Also looked at Willoughby House Hotel (in same area and I think the tourist office mentioned to me) which looks quite grand.

got to see if anyone will take us for just one night!
