Hi, all advice appreciated

Gran (65, v active/walking etc not sunbathing) and Grandad (ditto plus golf)
Dsis, DBil & Dneice (11), Dneph (8)
Me, DD1 (8) DD2 (3)

we are looking for something in school summer hols, not France or Italy, prob Spain or maybe Portugal but not full on Med heat probably therefore not Greece, Turkey etc

Dsis wants a bit of luxury after years of (posh) camping so is after hotel probably. Grandies and I would prob prefer s/c so a resort hotel with appartments and definitely a pool

walking distance from shops and beach (ideally in a town/village with character and no/minimal english pubs/egg and chips Blush)

stuff to do for the kids (but tbh not thinking Mark Warner etc)

money not no object but we are realistic that this won't be cheap

Monte da Quinta (see here) could tick all your boxes. It's a good 4 star in Portugal, and has the option of apartment/villa-style accommodation within the hotel, with kids club, golf, nice country walks, etc. Everyone's idea of cheap is different but I think you get a lot for your money here
:)

Majorca, supposed to be good for walkers, golf some very high standard hotels.

top end travel companies like Soveriegn.

Italy nice, endless..

BlackandGold · 05/10/2010 17:26

Pollensa in Majorca might be worth looking at.

Sheraton Pine Cliffs? in the Algarve?

Have you thought about trying northern european countries like Austria, Denmark etc etc?

It's not something I would have thought of being a Greece/Spain loving person but a work colleague has been punting his holiday apartment in Austria and apparently have cracking summers but are not med type heat - fantastic for hiking at that time of year but hot enough to swim in nearby lakes, most hotels/s/c complexes have own swimming pools too - Ryanair, Thomsons charter and others fly from most major UK airports -

you can see that his sales schpeel is working on me!

hello, thanks, been off this thread for a couple of days, I really appreciate the suggestions. Mallorca looks good - have been sent link to a lovely looking place in Soller

I would go for the central/northern europe thing, as would grandies, not sure about dsis but will suggest

Do you need to be by the sea? If not, Switzerland (Bernese Oberland is great) or Northern Italy (Lake Como) might fit the bill.
