Car Hire - do you always have to provide a credit card in the driver's name?

Because I'm the driver but I don't have a credit card - dp would be paying on his.

thanks for that - i've looked at hertz and avis and both of them require a credit card in the driver's name when the car is picked up (I don't think they care who pays for it at the time of booking)

No - we use easy autos - www.easyautos.co.uk - for car hire on holiday. I book in advance (and pay upfront) using my card although my husband is the driver.

ours was slightly different though as i was getting it as a courtesy car when mine was run into.
so they knew they'd get the money for it from the insurance company, but we still had to pay a deposit which dp did...
