Anyone 'won' a free holiday?

Filled one of those consumer questionaires in while shopping last week and just had a phone call to say i won a free holiday!

Anyhow seems odd. They asked before confirming anything whether I was a homeowner and employed.

They said I could go anywhere in Europe in the next 18mths.They would pay flights, return and accomodation.I would have to pay 34.50 pp admin fee.I asked whether I would have to sit in a days time share selling meeting when i was there and they said no.But I would have to pick up my documents to enable me to book the holiday within the next two weeks from Lancaster (I will in Greater Manchester)I said I was not interested. Have I done right thing? We are moving next year so a holiday is unlikley.Th eco was either JVC or QVC.

We have before. The admin fee and the sales meeting put us off even looking any further. Tm my way of thinking - if I have WON something it should be completely FREE. These never are. I am very scptical.

QVC is a timeshare company I think...

Agree with HB - if you've won something it's free.

We had this a few years ago we sent away the first form out of curiosity and they came back saying we could have our third choice with some dates we hadn't even put down as a choice. We also had to send a cheque (think it was about £25 each) for admin. We didn't a few weeks later there was an article in the press about this dodgy company who had scammed loads of people out of money by promising free holidays, it was the same company.

I would avoid it like the plague if I were you, if it were free why the admin fee?

i did a thread on this a few days ago. i actually made the appointment but will not be going. they offered me £50 or argos vouchers or a tv for travelling to their office. it all sounded too good to be true.

I have cut and pasted this from a previous thread -NBG also won a holiday...
NBG, DH and I have had a LCI / Club la Costa 'freebie' holiday. We had to go to a 4 hour presentation in Rotherham (before kids - you can't take them along with you). We had already planned our 'attack 'before hand and stuck with the story that we spent £1000 on a 4 week holiday backpacking in Thailand, and yes, this is how we liked to holiday - ie Big Fat NO to a timeshare. We came away with a voucher for a week in Tenerife (paid extra for specifying date and destination), with usual admin fees etc. The flight was OK - an early morning charter flight from Manchester (but no meal!!) The timeshare resort was beautiful - 'more luxurious than 5 star' as LCI kept telling us! However, it was still being built and a huge crane and workmen were our view from the balcony! Also it was next to umpteen golf courses, there was no public transport and it was a fair journey to the nearest town. We also had to attend another timeshare pitch - we were chauffer driven there but had to catch the bus to the resort and a taxi back to the apartment when again we stuck to our 'cheap backpacking holiday' story. One sales person asked us why we were here at all if we preferred backpacking and DH and I replied - you offered us a free holiday - why not?

You need a strong head to endure the sales pitch, but if you can do it, you will have a good time!

Just tell them you own a string of villas on the Algarve if you don't like backpacking

gingerbear · 07/09/2005 16:36

Ours was with LCI - not QVC. QVC have been on Watchdog though.
