We are thinking of going to North Carolina to see family but would only stay 4 days out of a 2 week holiday.

The big question is where do we go from there?

We ahve thought of Florida, but aren't sure.
So what are the other options??

Our DC will be 15 and 12

What time of year are you thinking of travelling?. I ask this as the humidity in FL in August for example can be uncomfortable.

Easter, I have no idea what the remps would be anywhere. Blush

What are you interested in? If history/politics are your bag, head north through Virginia to Washington DC and maybe even up through Pennsylvania to New York. If it's hiking and wildlife, head inland for the Smokey Mountains National Park. Easter should be warm and pleasant in and around NC (fingers crossed). No idea about Florida weather, though.

more national park than politics

OK. Smokey Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway, then. Fab. You could follow it north (drive a day, hike a day) and then head into West Virginia and do white water stuff. You could follow it south into Georgia, even. Bill Bryson's A Walk In The Woods is about following the Appalachian Trail - the Blue Ridge Parkway is part of it. It would be hardcore USA, though - off the usual tourist trail. And you wouldn't see any famous 'sights'. But you might see bears.

Actually there's really cool stuff in NC - no need to go that far. Go to the Outer Banks. Amazing beaches, great wildlife and the home of the first ever flight. Then head north along the coast for Assateague Island to see the wild horses.
