Breast feeding abroad

I am about to embark on a drive to Switzerland via France and Germany with DH and DD who is 4 months old for a 2 week holiday. Can anyone offer any tips on breast feeding in those countries? Are they accepting in cafe's or restaurants of descrete breast feeding? Should I ask permission first? If so, can someone let me know the phase to use in French and German!?

Have bf ds many times in France, never asked was just descrete. Only complaint came from my english father in law.

Have seen more mums bfing in France over the last summer.

Switzerland seemed the same. Sorry, no ideas about Germany

Enjoy the drive

If my 4 month old was hungry I would feed them regardless of what country I was in. I cant see that it matters, and I certainly wouldn't ask permission. :)

We travelled across Europe (Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Italy and over to Sicily) and I found all of these countries to be very accepting of breastfeeding.
I was a little shy at first but when I found myself forced to feed DD in the middle of a busy square, at the bottom of some statue or other (the only place to sit) I looked over to the people next to me and noticed the woman was feeding her son too.
I fed her in restaurants, parks, beaches, a service station in Sicily - you name it! I did try and be discreet whenever we were out but noone batted an eyelid.
One thing I would really recommend if you haven't already got one is a baby carrier - we couldn't have managed without it! DD loved being snuggled up in there while we enjoyed the sights.
Hope you have a fantastic time! :)

Never had any issues in Germany
Just get on with it and I'm sure you'll be fine

I bf in France and Germany, including restaurants.

No-one noticed/cared and I didn't ask before I did it.

Enjoy your holiday. Smile

I live in Germany and discrete bf ing is not a problem. Dont go to motorway stations much though...

Never had anything but smiles and cooing at baby when bf in France. Don't know about the others but I imagine it would be fine too.

I would be like Katkouta, if mbaby was hungry I would just feed her wherever we were.

France is fairly liberal in that department...but that was before they started banning hijabs and burning gypsies at the stake
