can anyone suggest some please? We're hoping to take DS (3) and DD (1) up to go on the north yorkshire steam train (DD is obsessed with steam trains- like a young roy cropper!)

thanks!

we stayed here when we went to yorkshire

it's just outside of scarborough but is good for getting to all the attractions.

Captain Cooks Haven very good but outside Whiby, have to be happy to drive in or walk about 1mile, feels longer with small children. We did it when ds was almost 4, didn't take buggy cos hardly used it any more, ended up buying a cheap one after few days of moaning/daddy having to carry ds.
This is good website www.whitbyholidaycottages.net
Also, little railway along scarborough beach is really nice for wee train trip, cheap too, get it from opposite peasholm park, fab boating lake in there too.
Recommend going open top bus tour in whitby too, takes you all over up to west cliff, where theres go-karts, crazy golf and round to abbey (without walking or doing hundreds of steps!!) You can get on & off for whole day. We love Whitby Grin

There is a large youth hostel in Whitby. Haven't stayed there myself, so don't know what it's like, but thought it worth mentioning. Not all youth hostels take under 3s, but many do - you would need to check the website.
