A few years ago when on holiday with young family we were walking along the sandy beaches in Corralejo, Fuerteventura, the sand looked so nice and soft I decided to take my shoes off and walk along between the sand dunes. Now for some reason I looked down at my feet and to my horror there was a blood filled syringe poking out of the sand, I literally just missed stepping on it. When I looked around I noticed several syringes poking out amongst the sand dunes. Fortunately my family had kept their shoes on, but to this day I will never walk on a beach without beach shoes, even in the water.
I told our holiday rep about this and she said it was common place on the beaches in the area! Has anyone else experienced this frightening situation? Did notice it again in Northern Cyprus on a beach.
