Hello all,
I am driving to Cumbria from London with DS next weekend. Has anyone got any tips or advice? He likes to sleep in the car but I'm worried he'll sleep all day and then be awake all night. Or, he'll start to scream just as we pass the turnoff for the service station. Should I try to keep him awake?
Has anyone got any reassuring / you are not alone tales to share?

i drove on my own with ds when he was 3 months from belfast to limerick and it was fine. i left when he was due a sleep and then stopped off when he woke for a feed and to change. i let him lie for a while on the change mat in the back of the car and then carried on. can you put him in the front beside you? i could switch my air bag off and so he could see me if he was awake. i also put a hanging toy up so he had something to look at.

good luck, you should be grand!

The younger they are the easier it is IMO. 4 mths should be a doddle. He will probably sleep a lot for you but if you plan frequent breaks then these should prevent him for having too much sleep and it will give him a chance to stretch and move around a bit as you don't want him crammed in a care seat for the whole 7 hours. Try to keep to your routine as much as possible, don't prevent him from falling asleep and if he screams, just come off at the next conveinient stop, it won't do him any harm to shout for a bit, especially if you can't do anything about it.
