Nerja - nice or nasty?

Looking at apartments and villas with shared or private pools, and prices are very good compared to France or Italy.

I love "real" Spain and don't love the full English breakfast/Irish pub kind of place, but on the other hand fancy somewhere with a bit of life to it and near the beach.

I'd love somewhere where we can easily stroll out for tapas and a glass of rioja without being mobbed by the Club 1830 crowd but don't mind bumping into fellow english speaking families.

Nerja appears to tick all the boxes. Have you been? Or is there somewhere even better?

I think you might be on the right track - haven't been myself apart from a dimly-remembered day trip years ago (which I remember as being lovely), but a friend went this summer and said it was lovely.

yes we went last year
it's nice. it IS very english in that there are lots of expats there, and everyone speaks english, way more so than places like Barcelona

um, the town itself has a lot of eateries serving up typical brit abroad menus (ie, everything and chips) but there are also some really lovely proper spanish places where you can get nice stuff

i think it would be great for what you want. well worth doing lots of research and finding out where the good eateries and stuff are though

beach is kind of grey and gritty rather than nice soft sand, if that matters to you?
we took kids and they didn't seem to mind at all

Personally I don;t like sand Grin and would stick to the pool for most of the time! Dd is an only child though, so would like some opportunities for her to maybe meet other kids. Appartment complex maybe....

I can also recommend a great english speaking creche in the torrecilla. Great for a couple of hours peace. The girls who run it are lovely.

Yes, tis very lovely have been twice and would definately return, good selection of restaurants, nice walks, the only Spanish resort that topped it for us was staying in the proper Old Town district of Marbella, that was awesome.

We went in February, it was lovely and we would go back. No hideous high rises either. The have a Lidl too which always comes in handy when self catering!
