Kerela or Goa - where to go?

Hello We are off to see my sister in Abu Dhabi in April and as it will be our holiday for the year we thought we would tag on some time in India as it appears far cheaper than going to Oman for 10 days and India is somewhere we would love to go. We have thought about Goa or Kerela but have no idea where to go within those two areas or what sort of accommodation woould be suitable. I have got Lonley PLanet and have been looking on line...but it is not the same as someone who has been there. I don't want to end up in some overdeveloped resort or conversley in the middle of nowhere. So help would be really appreciated.
It will be me, DH and DS (6 at time of travel).
Please let me know your experiences and thoughts.

Goa was a really nice place to go, but now vry busy and not an indian idyll like it used to be. I would opt for Kerrala now as it is supposed to be much more tranquil and lush and nicer curry Wink

Kerala is lovely, I was there years ago, on Kovalam beach amongst others, hope they didn't plonk an all-inclusive on it since!

Also great is going for boat rides on the backwaters, your son will love it!

Kerala is lovely but in April will be very very humid. I know this because that's when we went and I was taken by surprise at how bad it was. I was living in Dubai at the time, so was heat didn't bother me, but the humidity made everything hard work.

We stayed at Fort Cochin which is great and did a couple of trips from there. The backwaters are lovey, but make sure your boat has air conditioning if you opt for the overnight one. Everyone we met was friendly and we had a super trip.

If you are still considering Oman (which is a brilliant country) have a look at the Oman Dive Centre, which is a resort just outside Muscat. Sometimes you can get a good offer and have had good trips there. Would be ideal also for your son as it's on the beach. You can drive from AD in about 5 hours.
