We have the sovereign brochure which has a couple of nice family hotels. I quite like the look of the vila vita parc. It has a kids club for babies to 3 and then another for 4-11 year olds. 40 minute transfer from Faro airport.

Bit of an Algarve freak, I'm afraid, and have spent last 3 summers at Hilton....love it! Bit of a walk from town/beach but shuttle bus does help. Sheraton also has good reviews and new Tivoli Victoria in Vilamoura (avoid Tivoli in Vilamoura marina....soooo pretentious). The Tiv Vic has apartments as well as hotel so maybe good for family aspect, but again, a way out of town.
If you've got loads of cash to splash, maybe try Monte da Quinta suits at Quinta do Lago - they have townhouses as well as appartments and hotel rooms, all round central clubhouse and facilities...they look fab but costly.
May also be worth you looking at villa; you still get maid service so no cleaning up required, and there's enough of you to share breakfast and lunch making with dinner out. Vale do Lobo has some lovely villas with pools, close to beach and main pool area. They have a buzzy piazza great for evenings with band playing everynight - will appeal to all ages. Vale is only 20 mins from airport, with Vilamoura 30-40 mins. TBH we prefer eating out over towards Vale/Quinta as there's lots of fab restaurants over that way, but you would need a car. Vilamoura marina can get a bit choccablock in August but there are a couple of gems.

Have buckets of info to give if you need more!! Hope this helps...
