How do I entertain 8 boys on a train for an hour?

I'm taking 8 or 9 7-year olds to London to do the London Rib Voyage. I'm worried about keeping these over-excited children entertained for the hour's journey, without alienating every other person in the carriage. Thankfully, it will be a Saturday, so there won't be commuters - any ideas???

Poker?

Some sort of I spy - make a big list of all the things you might be able to see from the windows of a train, and give them each a copy so they can tick them off when they spot them - split into two teams, one on each side of the train, and the team that spots the most wins a bag of lollies, or similar.

Ooh I was going to say I-spy! Brilliant, SDTG. Especially with the teams and the prizes.

Also take food, and drinks.

I would think by the time they have all investigated the toilets etc the hour will be almost up. It will fly in :D

Could you posisbly get a couple of those games like connect 4 or something? Four kids per table.

I kept 5 8 year olds quiet on a train for the best part of two hours by playing "who can be the silentest for longest". Cue lots of "how on earth did you manage THAT" from assorted teaching assistants [smug]. AND there were no actual prizes [even more smug].

Anything with some competition would work I reckon.

Thank you, all of you - I didn't think I would get any response at all, so very touched! Love the I-Spy game in teams - brilliant. And snacks!
