Promised the kids a trip out to the Zoo as a final end of summer treat but just checked the prices and its going to cost £50 for us to get in. Can't beleive its so expensive.

So am now looking for an alternative.

Was wondering about Twycross Zoo -much cheaper. Is it any good?
Any other suggestions. We live in the Peak District just below Manchester - would take 2 hrs to Chester Zoo so happy to travel similar.

Or do we just drag the kids to the Chatwsorth Show again.

Have a look here you might be able to find a discounted ticket for an attraction near you (my geography is not great....dreadful in fact would be a good description).

Chester Zoo reduce their prices in the Winter so you could always try going then. I'm planning to take my son in October for his birthday

I gave away some half price Chester Zoo tickets on here at the end of August - but you don't want to hear that !

Twycross zoo is quite good - much smaller - lots of monkeys, gibbons, huge gorillas + rides for kids (little train, roundabouts etc). Also got penguins, seals, elephants, giraffes, birds
We went on the Bank Hol weekend & thought it was good.
(we are also members at Chester Zoo - might be worthwhile looking at that option if you fancy going more than once a year)
