I've never been to the canaries, but fancy a winter break for a week with the family. what the pros and cons of lanzarote v tenerife? not interested in nightclubs or anything too brash, but enjoy restaurants/beaches/volcanoes/waterparks. would greatly appreciate your thoughts and any parcticularly nice resort suggestions

Lanzarote - if you keep away from the big resorts - is lovely (lots of lovely Cesar Manrique installations, volcanic craters, nice beaches) but rather windy. We stayed near Arrieta (great beach) self catering at Villa Casa Hibiscus - there's also a Yurt complex near there. But the weather is more variable and it can be rather windy.

Only been to Tenerife and stayed in a hotel for the whole week (v tired at the time) - weather was lovely (late 20s all the time) in November.

dinky thanks for replying so quickly. do you mean the weather is more variable in lanzarote than tenerife or are you talking about that area of lanzarote? we are looking to go in feb

have been to lanzarote and am going for our first holiday alone with dh to tenerife in january for winter break.

I like Lanzarote, its windy, but then so are all the canaries. Costa Teguise is nice and quiet with some nice restaurants.
To be honest unless you go to either Playa Del Ingles in Gran canaria or Playa de las americas then the canaries is pretty thin on nightclubs I think.

Well we went to Tenerife last November and Lanzarote last Feb (during half term). It rained - alot - in Lanzarote (but it was the weather front that caused the floods in Madeira). Weather is generally more variable in Lanzarote as a whole as I understand. Friends who went to Tenerife at that time had better weather. When it wasnt raining it was lovely and warm - but abit windy at times. Had no issues with wind in Tenerife - but then it was a very different holiday.
