hi

I have a close relative in Singapore we were planning to visit later this year with a 5 year old and a loud and lively 20 month old... am now getting very cold feet over travelling long haul with them, their body clocks not adapting and whether the place is child friendly at all (one local says it is a nightmare with kids)

any thoughts?

YES YES YES and NO NO NO to the last part. That is we took our lively 20 month old to Singapore and it was fab. We did a stopover enroute to Australia. Her body clock was suprisingly good in adapting to the change. We found it very child friendly. We did lots of things with dd. She loved travelling up and down the river on the bum boats, Sentosa for a day, swimming in the pool at the hotel, the cablecar, eating out, shopping and so on. She was no problem eating out of a nightime. Everyone stopped to chat to her and smile. I found it very child friendly.

Singapore Airlines are fab and we have had such good trips travelling with them. I am sure you could find great literature about travelling with kids through Singapore.

I know there are plenty of others on mumsnet who have travelled to Singapore with little ones and had a great time.

I think go. You will be always wishing you had if you hadnt!!!!
have you thought about not taking the children!!!!!

eidsvold · 31/08/2005 07:01

That is another point too - you have the chance to go - DO IT!! What an opportunity.

thanks for tips so far and it's good to hear the place is friendly. not taking the children isn't an option as grandparents are in short supply and a bit too creaky to have them for any length of time... DH sweetly said I should go on my own but don't want to especially as I have had a work trip this year which was difficult for them

Hi yes you must stopover. We did last year with our 2 sons and had a fab time.It is well worth seeing and at night by the river it is lovely.Very humid but all the hotels are air conditioned so you dont notice it.We did the night zoo with the boys which they loved.

It is really hot and humid - like stepping into a greenhouse, but everywhere is air conditioned, the taxis are gorgeous when you're really hot! And outdoor swimming is fab, because it really is hot enough to do it, eating out is great, you can take the kids to see the wild monkeys at Bukit Timah. I loved it! Didn't take children, but imagine would be fine. Singapore Airlines are ridiculously customer friendly so I imagine would cosset children!

Took my 3 month old son to Singapore en route to Australia - flew Singapore Airlines who were brilliant. Absolutely no problems anywhere -it's a great place to visit and we found it very child friendly.

Have to agree, eidsvold. We took DD on way back from Australia & she had a whale of a time. She was 20 months old at the time.

We did Sentosa, city tour etc & she just crashed out whenever she had too!

I would do it again deffinitly. DD has blue eys & blond hair & she had her photo taken by some many, I should have charged! Teenages were asking their parents to take photos of them with her! What a story to tell her when she's older!
