We are heading to Florida in October 2010 and are looking for recommendations of car hire companies to book through (is there any way of avoiding huge queues when picking up your hire car???)any advice would be very helpful.
thanks in advance

My husband always uses US Rent a car.com

Advice - well - we do two things. Either DH leaves me to get luggage (make sure you get trolley!) and goes and queues up for car - then I go and find him at the car rental place. Usually end up meeting him when he's near front of the queue. Doing Orlando next year with our new arrival - who should be about 7 months - so if we do this one, my plan will be basically the same, but Dh will take kid too.

Also - he just said - if you go with Budget online - they have a free thing, pre-registration card thing (he can't remember name) - but basically you enter your details - creidt card and driver's license, and when you arrive at airport - you go straight to booth which is in car park and they have all details on file - so you can get the car quicker - without queueing.

Hope that makes sense. And my Dh just asked - can he go with you????

We are also going to Florida in October and DH says we are booking with Dollar Express (their frequent flyer program) to hopefully avoid queueing. Allegedly its like having a gold card which means you don't have to queue. (watch this space)
We've used various different car hire companies over the years and he seems to prefer them.

Are you flying into Sanford or Orlando International? Some of the car rental companies at Orlando International don't have their cars on site and you get bussed out to them which can be a pain whereas at Sandford they are on site.
Worth checking out which companies are on site if you are flying into Orlando International.

Thanks for all the advice will have a look at the car hire companies online we are flying onto Orlando international. It does sound go filling your details online before you leave as well.My dh thought if we got a taxi to our villa and then picked up the car the next day?I think there will always be queues though! Thanks again

depends on where your villa is. Where our villa is the management company offer a service to collect you from the airport and then take you to the car hire office the following day to collect your car.

If you want to avoid queues, contact Caronthedrive (google it and it will come up).
They will meet you at Orlando Int, drive you to your villa or hotel and your car will be there for you. They are a fairly small company so they may be booked already, still worth a try. At the end of your holiday they will also take you back to the airport. We havent used them yet ourselves but they come highly recommended!

just be careful if you are usingone of these companies that MrsWobble refers to.

We did this a few years ago and when we were waiting to go back to the airport the driver was late and then turned up in a car the size of a Ford Fiesta for 4 of us and about 6 cases. We therefore had to wait for another car and almost missed our flight!

Thanks for all the advice we are staying near Formosa Gardens which looks like it is about two or three miles from disney. We are going to have a look online just now to see what options there are.

ooh, you are near my favourite Italian restaurant then. Gordianos (sp?) is in FG centre and is lovely.

Thanks mumoverseas for the tip about the Italian restaurant will need to keep that one in mind.

We booked with this comapany www.uscarhire.co.uk/

We needed a 15 seater and they were loads cheaper than any other company and the car was great.

We did as suggested above, driver went for the car, the rest of us got the cases.
