Travel vaccinations whilst breastfeeding

Has anyone had the Typhiod vaccination whilst breastfeeding? I had one 3 years ago, so I'm due another round about now. We plan to travel in November when DS is 6mo. He is totally breastfed and I plan to start weaning just before we go.

The nurse wasn't really clear on whether I should have it or not. She said to go back in October to see what the situation is then (I think she meant that she will see if I'm still bfing by then which I do plan to be).

Has anyone been in the same situation? did you have the Typhiod jab? Did it have any affect on you or your DC?

Hi, typhoid vaccine isnt a live vaccine so it shouldnt be an issue, but take advice from your nurse. Pregnancy isnt a contraindication to the vaccine, Useful websites are fit for travel and NATHNAC. Where are you going to?? Is the vaccine really needed. As it is a booster it will work straight away so take advice from your nurse closer to the travel date. If you dont have it make sure you practice very strict food and water hygeine

I've had this discussion twice as I went to Ceijing when bf DS and to Mumbai while bf DD. The nurse at the travel clinic called the drug company and talked it through with them -- the consensus was that there was no theoretical reason it should be an issue but it had never been tested so they didn't recommend it. We decided it came down to levels of risk. When going to Bejing the risk was relatively low, even though typhoid was an officially-recommended vaccination, so that time I didn't have the vaccination. When going to Mumbai the risk was higher, so I did. No effect on me or on DD from having the vaccination.

Ceijing should be Beijing, obviously -- changed my mind from writing "China" to writing "Beijing" but evidently only after I'd already started typing...

mebaasmum - We are going to Lahore in Pakistan to visit the PIL. It is not near where the floods are but I think the risks will still be high. I will have a look at the websites you suggested.

PLIMLS - Its good to know it had no effect on you or your DD. Did you take Malaria tablets, I've forgotten what the nurse said about those!

No, neither area was malarial. We were considering going to Goa as well as Mumbai but didn't in the end -- IIRC chloroquine and proguanil are still OK for Goa and are also OK for breastfeeding, but I'm not sure what the situation is in Lahore.
