5 star luxury and family friendly?

We are trying to book a holiday of a lifetime for march next year with our 4 year old 3 or 4 month old (currently 6 months pregnant).

As DH is Australian we have built up some air miles with Virgin and have free flight pretty much anywhere but are therefore restricted to where Virgin Atlantic fly to - Carribean, America, Dubia, South Africa...

We want prefect weather, beautiful beach, luxury and a kids club. We have a decent (well I think it's a lot!) budget.

Any recommendations would be appreciated... Thanks

(I have already looked at the Mumsnet reviews)

Where in South Africa? Can recommend Umhlanga, just outside Durban. Great place, has a couple of resorts that were great when we went 6 years ago.

Have a look here

Windjammer Landing, St Lucia and Carlyle Bay, Antigua worth a look.

www.elegantresorts.co.uk I've taken this from junior magazine travel special. Carlisle bay in Antigua looks fab. Has childcare for children from 6 months.

How about Sandy lane in Barbados? Haven't stayed there but have eaten there.

pagwatch · 21/08/2010 10:37

Sandy Lane is over priced inho and their beach is shit

We stayed at Royal Pavillion and really liked it. All the rooms are right on the beach and the watersports etc are lovely. Of course it isn't inclusive and eating is expensive so don't forget to factor that into the price. And that children need a sepeate room. But well worth it

should add.. the kids club is only about two hours a day. That was more than enough for us and DD wanted to snorkle and whizz around with us. But if you want a full day it won't suit you

We are thinking of going to Mauritius which I think virgin do fly to. Have heared good things about One & Only Le Saint Geran.

Its just the 12 hour flight thats putting me off.

Emmaroos · 22/08/2010 21:02

Evening babysitting at the St Geran works out at almost £50 for 3 hours during dinner.
Also be beware of 4 Seasons resorts and their policy allowing the babysitter to order room a room service meal on your account (seriously!).
We have learned from bitter experience to double check all the extras on the babysitting before we book!
