Travel agent or online?

I'm hoping to grab a bargain to go away in Sep or Oct. Ds 2 so no school.

I've been trawling the internet for a couple of days and am now thinking to just go to a travel agent and let them do the leg work.
Do I save alot by booking myself?

Just don't know what to do.
I am extremely flexible re dates, location can't even decide whether to go self catering, half board or all inclusive.
Any help would be appreciated

I would reccommend getting a rough idea of what you are looking to do and how much it is costing on the internet and take this information to the travel agents. Although they may not be able to match the quote they will try their best to do the best price and and can sometimes throw in extras eg free carparking or coach transfers to sway you.

Put it this way I saved £1000 by booking my holiday myself on the net. I used On the beach.com and booked the flights from my local airport, saved a fortune on the taxi fare against what the holiday company wanted. Most travel agents are owned by Tui etc so they only offer packages and really cant understand what they offer.

If DS 2 then a hotel has its pitfalls ie no early sittings and after being in the sun all day I find children start to flake after 6pm and my children need to be in bed arounf 7-8. SO this also causes a problem with being struck in the room.

AI is only good value if you get great service and great food unless you pay an absolute premium then I wouldnt bother. Go Full board instead.

Sept weather is ok for the Med by oct youd be better staying around the canaries.

Aparthotels are a good option maybe Majorca?

Thanks Bacon and Kirsty
I went to a travel agent today just to see what they had to offer.

She said there were no bargains to be had, that I would be looking at about £1000 unless I went self catering .
she also said prices for Sep were about the same as normal and hadn't dropped at all !
Made me def want to book online.

All the deals I look at are over £1000 though, I'm thinking about blowing the budget and going on a Mark Warner as at least I'll get a little break myself seen as I'm normally on my own with Ds 24/7.
Will prob go in Sep then as I'll get better weather, I'll have a look at those sites you've suggested
thanks again

I've had a look at on the beach, great site. I can get a week self catering in Majorca for £500 - fab.
Think I'll go for s/c then we can just eat when we like.
Oooh getting excited now
