Whatever you do, avoid Pattaya. It is not a place suitable for families. We lived in Thailand for four years and went to Pattaya for the weekend probably once a month. We stayed at cabbages and condoms and never left the resort. Pattaya is just full of sex tourists, no culture at all.

Sorry, I made the assumption that you didn't want to be a sex tourist. I should also clarify, C+C's despite its odd name is a fantastic place with a great mission.

No, I don't want to be a sex tourist lol.

England are playing a friendly match over there next June and my son is football mad and wants to go and watch the match (rather than holiday at Disneyland Florida).

My mate who lives in Pattaya has suggested we stay at the Centara Grand, as it is great for kids - water park etc. His advice, is to stay away from Walking Street and we'll be fine. He has said that the place has a bad rep - bit like Amsterdam. I took my lad to Amsterdam for a week last year when he was 4 and it was great - just stayed away from the red-light area.

I've stayed at the hotel you mention and would go to cabbages over that place any day of the week. OTOH, as long as you stay away from the centre of town, you should be able to leave with your sensibilities intact. You will see some strange and horrible wonderful sights nonetheless. Enjoy.
