Roof boxes - hard or soft

Hi there,

I'm looking all over the net for a suitable roofbox, and its just a minefield. I cant decide whether a soft type box would be suitable, or whether a hard box is better. I'm driving down to Aquitaine at the end of the month, so need a roof rack/box for then. Its just that I dont want to spend a fortune on something that may end up in the attic once its been used.

We have a soft one (think it's a Carnopy one}. It suits us as we only use it when we go on holiday, so it can be rolled up and stored in the loft without taking up much space. DH always makes sure it's completely full (I'm sure he must have explained why it's a bad idea to have flappy bits of roof bag but possibly I wasn't listening properly

If you get a hard roofbox, you will not be storing it in your attic!

We have a hard one - the biggest we could find in Halfords - and it is great. Really easy to put on and off, and, importantly, secure.

long shot but where abouts are you. I have a hard roof box going cheap.

Was thinking about £40 but I am good two hour drive from you.

I am interested, where exactly are you? Would it be an option to meet half way (I appreciate this is cheeky, please don't be offended!)
