Hello,

I would be grateful for any recommendations on travel to Spain next year. Ds been ill for number of years, now aged 7 but ill since 2, and for the first time ever seems well enough to travel. He has asked to go to Spain (as they won the world cup ).
So we need: somewhere warm but not boiling; within 30/45 minutes of any airport; quiet with amenities close-by (restaurants, shops, beach (not an essential) etc.) Looking at late September 2011 (no tied to term dates) which gives us plenty of time to create a bullet-proof travel plan!

TIA

Calpe is lovely, probably about 45 mins from the airport and if you stay nearer the marina lots of restaurants in walking distance plus lovely long beach.

We have just stayed in Cambrils which is a 20 min taxi ride from Reus airport. We also got the train from Cambrils to Barcelona which was cheap(7.45 euros).

We have a place in La Manga which is nice. In September it won't be too busy, it's within 40 mins of Murcia San Javier airport. If you are up the end of the strip where we are it's pretty quiet, there should still be restaurants/bars open then. It's within driving distance of Cartagena where there is a nice port, and in La Manga there is a small marina where there are restaurants/bars and of course big boats to look up. There are bigger shopping centres close by if that's your kind of thing but equally there are some nice places to drive around and look at that are much quieter.

It's basically a strip of land in the sea with the Med sea on one side and the Mar Menor on the other where you can see mainland Spain.

Sitges , south of Barcelona (30 min) is a very nice and quiet village. Not at all Benidorm-like. Small pedestrian streets, plenty of restaurants, long beaches and a nice promenade . Your DS could then have a day-trip to Barcelona and the Camp Nou museum, home of the Barça FC! And any Gaudi building is just magic for a 7-8 year old .

Nerja on the Costa del Sol is a lovely place. I got married there. Also another vote for Sitges.

Apologies as I've only just come back to this thread!
Thank you everyone for your suggestions, you've given me ideas that I would never have thought of. I love the sound of Sitges and Calpe and will look into those further.

Thanks again.

Bluebump, do you rent out your place in La Manga? Where abouts is it? We've stayed at the Hyatt loads of times but havent been for the last 4 years, but would like to take DS next summer.
