B&B/hotel in Tunbridge Wells?

Can anyone please recommend a hotel or B&B (or pub even) in Tunbridge Wells? The hubby and I are going for a wedding in Sep and have decided to indulge in a long weekend away from the little one but can't find anywhere to stay! Would love to try hotel du vin but it's just too expensive for us and everywhere else (Brewhouse, Smart and Simple etc...) seem to be booked up. Just fancy something a little indulgent, modern, simple but no more than £150-200 per night.

Alternatively has anyone stayed at the Carpenter's Arms in Tonbridge?

Thanks!

How about The George in Cranbrook? Not far from Tunbridge Wells and Cranbrook makes for a more romantic setting than Tunbridge Wells!

rockbudgie · 27/07/2010 13:53

That looks perfect Bonsoir - exactly my taste! My only concern is if it's too far away from the wedding... but am definitely considering it. Thank you

Whareabouts is the wedding. Have namechanged but from this area.

The church is in Tunbridge Wells and the reception is at David Salomons house in Southborough. Appreciate your help!

salomons is wonderful for a wedding, have been to a couple there, so far starters you will have a really great time.

The reason I asked, was the distance from the venue to where you are going to stay.

The carpenters Arms (presume you mean in Three Elm Lane, Tonbridge) is ok but does that mean one of you will be driving? Or are you getting a cab? If a cab this is quite a distance. Not the nicest of places to stay in anycase, a bit ordinary run of the mill.

Am just looking somewehere else up for you, back in a mo.

Really July27th?? Have you been there sicethe refurb??

Carpenter's Arms (Hadlow) is LOVELY!! It's my local pub! Great food, great rooms, great setting. Only 10-15mins in a cab to Southborough.

catinboots · 27/07/2010 14:21

since the refurb!

July27th · 27/07/2010 14:22

this is about 20 mins from salomans

Bit odd to view the prices, you have to click on the booking to find them.

Have you looked at the prices of the Spa hotel in tun wells? That is lovely.

July27th · 27/07/2010 14:24

yes, cat, it is fine, but the OP seemed to be looking for somewhere extra special (I think)
Sorry to offend about the carp. I had lunch there not long ago myself!

Spa Hotel Tun Wells

rockbudgie · 27/07/2010 14:32

Thanks for this. The manor seems to be fully booked sadly. Looked at the Spa briefly and didn't really appeal enough for the cost but maybe I'll look at that one again.

Would prefer to taxi it back after but may be able to persuade the hubby to drive! Great to hear the venue's a good one too.

There's a Hotel du Vin in Tunbridge Wells. Very nice.

Drusilla · 27/07/2010 14:37

Or the Royal Wells smaller and cheaper than the Spa, and, IMO, more character. It was refurb'ed a few years ago - have been to a couple of weddings there in the last few years and seems ok. My PIL stayed there when I got married (although 7 years ago now) and said it wasv nice

July27th · 27/07/2010 14:38

ok, will keep looking, there are some lovely places to stay in this area. Were you looking particularly for hotel or B&B too?

May be worth looking at the Langley Hotel, tonbridge?

Or the Rose and crown, tonbridge? both have websites, but have to pop out for a bit, will have a think as I go!

July27th · 27/07/2010 14:40

yes, Royal Wells lovely too. Did you want rural or central?

Drusilla · 27/07/2010 14:44

Have a look at the Colonial Room AT The Beacon It is just over the road from the Spa. Haven't been there for a few years but has cracking views

flimflammum · 27/07/2010 14:45

You could try the Russell Hotel, in centre of Tunbridge Wells, on main road but overlooking the Common, close to good shops etc. My aunt has stayed there several times.

Thanks all!

B&B or pub is fine too - just want something with a bit of character but not too expensive. Would LOVE to stay at hotel du vin but I can't justify spending £300 a night!

Will look into all other suggestions though.

Drusilla LOVED Beacon too but fully booked. Is something happening last weekend of September (other than my friend's wedding)?!

OP posts:
Drusilla · 27/07/2010 14:54

No offence to Flimflams' Aunt but I wouldn't stay at the Russell if I was after something a little indulgent

July27th · 27/07/2010 15:23

the swan in the pantiles may be worth looking at. Never stayed there myself, maybe someone can advise.

July27th · 27/07/2010 15:29

Ramada Jarvis

Been to one reception here, but never stayed the night.

July27th · 27/07/2010 15:32

try this website. Quite a large selectio of places

Drusilla · 27/07/2010 15:36

I stayed at the Swan quite a lot about 10 - 15 years ago and it was v ropey, although lovely old building. I think it changed owners a few years ago tho? So may be completely different now.

eatyourveg · 27/07/2010 15:49

Don't do the rose and crown in Tonbridge its grotty. Ramada Jarvis ok but not extra special. can only offer the spa
