How does the bag drop at stansted work for checked baggage?

do you mean if you have checked in online?
you just go to the check-in desks as usual with your luggage.

just read something about a baggage drop but perhaps they meant check in place. If you drop in a bag, is it still worth checking in online or best just to do it when do bags?

can't speak for stansted but at Gatwick if you check in online there is a separate, faster queue for "bag drop". you still go up to a desk and hand over your passport (iirc) but much faster than the check in queue.

Yes Stansted has numerous ryanair bag drops. When you get there look at the info board and it will tell you the zone your bag drop is located in. Be aware though as ryanair now makes everyone check in online so the bag drops queues can be long, but generally it is quicker than the old airpoirt check in.
