We've booked to go Mauritius in Nov/Dec when DS will be 19mth.

What do i need to know/take/do!!!! Broad Q i know!

Ive bought pushchair with full sunshade. Ive got sling for airport..
Hoping has sleep in pram in day and poss in eve while we eat?

Got him 3 all in one 50spf suits for day/swim.

Will get some things to entertain on plane (books, crayons, cars (any other ideas?)

I am right in thinking its prob best if take my nappies instead of buying out there? (mayb expensive??)

Wont need food out there but will prob take snacks for journey...

What about milk? He has only ever had breastmilk up to 14mth and now cows milk...

Any other major or minor things to think about? Or just any useful advise that may help with our 1st holiday!!

Thanks

Hi,

I am sure you're going to have a great holiday. The travel may not be easy but things that might make the plane journey easier are:

  1. Any new toy that he's not seen before.
  2. Favourite cartoon/video on a portable player/your mobile phone.
  3. Set of flash cards (DS1 was into cars so we bought the Top Gear trump cards and would amuse him for at least 30mins).

Take some growing up milk as you can carry that all day and it doesn't need to be kept cool. You can buy in ready made bottles (just in case you get caught out with nowhere to get cow's milk).

I suggest taking own nappies as you don't know whether there'll be shops nearby that stock the right size. We spent 2 hours trying to find nappies in Copenhagen one time!

One tip is to carry lots of nappies, change of clothes, pjs, toiletries, milk etc in hand luggage; in case airline misplaces your bag. One time we had to make do for 24 hours until our bags were sent on to us!

I'd also bring sunblock, hats, mosquito repellent (there's a nifty device shaped like a ladybird you can clip onto pushchair or travel cot and it keeps bugs away from baby).

Swim nappies for the pool; sandals/crocs/jelly shoes for walking on the beach.

And of course a mini first aid kit with calpol.

You might also want to bring some beach toys to make sandcastles etc.

I am guessing the hotel should have travel cot and high chairs - check with them in case you need to bring booster seat (we did find it handy as not all cafes have high chairs).
