Picking up from Milton Keynes Bowl

Butterbur · 23/07/2010 17:35

I have to do this tomorrow night. 65,000 people are going to be streaming out. I don't know Milton Keynes at all.

Does anyone know where I might be able to park and arrange to meet DS1 and friends?

They usually do free buses to the train station but they'll probably be rammed and will take a while to get everybody out.

Depending on age, I would say they'd be better off walking to a neighbouring estate and you picking them up from there. There's a pub/hotel next to the lake a Furzton which is close and should be easy to find and park at...

THx Al. I will try that.

It's going to be crazy there tonight. We live over the other side of the city and I'm glad I don't need to be over there later!!

Hope he has a great time

That's really helpful. THank goodness for mobile phones though!

If he (or you) gets lost, tell him to find a roundabout. They all have signs on telling you which V and H roads intersect them.

V's are vertical - ie North to South and start at the V1 at the West of MK and run through to V11 on the East edge. They are all something Street. H's are Horizontal and run from H1 at the North through to H11 at the South. They are all something Way.

The main exits from the bowl are on the H7 Chaffron Way and the V4 Watling Street.

If either of you get lost, just work out which V or H road you are on by driving to the next roundabout (it's true, there are loads) and that should help you find where you are and which direction you need to go to be where you need to be. eg. if you're on the V6 and the next roundabout is the V7, just turn round and head the other way

AlCrowley · 24/07/2010 13:28

Of course the above only makes sense if you know MK is a grid system...

Butterbur · 25/07/2010 10:59

DH offered to go, for which I shall be eternally grateful. He found the roads were closed around the Bowl, and it wasn't possible to reach Furzton Lake, but they managed it somehow, and it was good to at least have somewhere to aim for.

You were wise to stay well clear of the area. Apparently the traffic jams were horrendous.

i was going to say park at asda/ikea and walk up.....about 20 mins! but see its done now. its what we do when at the bowl

i love MK!!

AlCrowley · 25/07/2010 13:16

Oh sorry Didn't realise they were shutting that much off!!

One of my friends lives by the lake at Furzton. Wonder if she was blocked in for the night?

I love MK too Tiffany. Have lived all over the country - only been in MK for about 7 years now - but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else now

GypsyMoth · 25/07/2010 13:26

i live just outside, nearer bedford....but often come to mk. plan to lots over hols for mk geo caching!!

AlCrowley · 25/07/2010 13:48

geo caching?

I think they're putting the beach back in the Center:MK over the summer holidays which should be fun.

Did you catch any of the IF festival? The bits we went to were amazing. If DD weren't still BF, I'd have had the MIL babysitting so I could go to more of the evening stuff. I hope they do it again next year.

GypsyMoth · 25/07/2010 14:03

IF festival? No..... Not heard of it! Went to Bedford river festival which was good tho

geo caching..... Modern day treasure hunt using gps. Great fun! It's worldwide too

yes went to the 'beach' last year, loved the pirate show they did. We go to willen lake alot too, and boys love 'aerial extreme' scares the life out of me tho!!

AlCrowley · 25/07/2010 14:27

IF fetival finishes today unfortuneatley. We did the Magical Menagerie and the Mirazozo. They were fantastic.

Not heard of geo caching before!

I run round Willen lake every Saturday. We finish near the Arial Extreme. Would love to try it but DS is only 3 so I've got a few years to go until he's big enough to give me the excuse

AlCrowley · 25/07/2010 14:32

Not sure what a fetival is

DH wanted to check F1 results and was making me rush!
