Avis car hire

I need to hire a car for my weeks holiday in France. Just finished maternity leave, so money is v tight. Think I remember seeing somewhere that you dont have to pay a deposit with an avis car. Is that correct?

We've just come back from Germany where we used Europcar, as it came in cheaper than Avis.

We didn't pay a deposit at all with Europcar, and when they saw us with twins, buggies and suitcases they gave us a bigger car at no extra charge!

Thanks for the tip-booked with avis before saw it. Perhaps if I cry when I see our renault twingo they will give me a bigger car!
