Looking for a couple of nights away as my trio are off on their first PGL break next week in Sussex. As my dh is on chemo we need a treat without breaking the bank. Any ideas of hotels/b&b or even s/catering near gardens to visit etc, something really nice......hot tub would be good

Hi Triplets, Sorry to read about your DH's chemo. I remember you from previous threads and thought he had all clear, sorry still ongoing.

Any preferences which part of Sussex? We are West Sussex and there is Borde Hill gardens and a few other places not far from us (around 15 mins from Gatwick) I will have a look for you at local (ish) hotels.

Thank you both of you, yes sadly the cancer came back after 9 months all clear, we had booked to go to Florida in May, scan in Jan showed back in liver and new spread to left lung. He is currently on trial chemo which has been awful, 6 months worth, 2 cycles to go all thru school hols!! Anywhere really in Sussex, a garden visit would be nice for him. Like to stay somewhere not too posh, relaxing, doesn`t need facilities ie pool as he has an ileostomy bag! Even a small cottage or lodge would be nice. Thank you for looking for me.

oh triplets, I'm so very sorry. I remember your threads about Florida. Was is this May or next? Did you have to cancel?

I will put on my thinking cap about where is lovely around here for you. We are not far from LGW and there are a few nice places. Will it be weekend or midweek?

triplets · 23/07/2010 20:26

Hi.......we should have flown on May 13th for 3 weeks, lost £1000 in deposits as no-one will cover the cancer The longest we have been able to go away is for 3/4 nights because of dh having a picc line in which has to be flushed. The kids are off to PGL in Sussex on Tues 27th for 4 nights, if dh is ok we are going to drive them and their friend down and are hoping to grab a night or two away ourselves

oh triplets, that is awful. I remember how excited you were about it. Don't know if you remember but on your old thread I'd said I own a place out there and offered you a free week but you'd already booked. (I've namechanged since then)
Please contact me when you are in a position to go again and I will let you have two free weeks in my villa. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, private pool and games room and 4 miles from Disney. Perfect for your and your family.
Anyway, that is in the future, back to now.

I recently stayed at a lovely hotel in the new forest which is part of the 'Handpicked Hotels' chain. They have a lovely looking hotel in Uckfield which is around 159 GBP per night. Is that too much? That includes dinner (with cannapes and pink champagne) and also breakfast. Am rubbish at linking but will try : www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/booking/Select-Rates/?hotel=13605

The one we stayed at was absolutely lovely and we felt very special (would have been far better if we had left DC behind though!) A real treat for us. There are lots of lovely little gardens/tea rooms etc in the area and of course the Ashdown Forest. There is a lovely hotel there too and will try to remember the name of it (think its the Ashdown park hotel) Will keep mooching now 2 out of 4 DC are asleep!
