We booked ages ago to go and visit some friends in Manchester (we live in North London) not realising it would be the first weekend of the school holiday.

Do you think the motorways will be heaving?

TIA

Sorry to say but most of us in the holiday business believe that the first weekend of summer school holidays is the busiest weekend for trunk roads and motorways. I always tell my guests at this time of year to allow extra time for reaching us.

My advice would be to leave early in the morning, even though you will not be encountering the great migration to the west!!!!

We are booked on the Eurostar Saturday and the lady there today said it will be the busiest day of the year for them....

thanks very much.

The dcs and I told DH last night that we want to be away at 6am at the latest and he told us we were being daft and it was unnecessary. I'll show him these posts though now and I think it might help persuade him. He's rubbish at getting up in the mornings when it's just 7.30am so 5.45 am should be fun!!

Sounds like my DH - loves his bed!

DH is refusing to set the alarm and says he'll 'get up and go' when the first dc wakes. DH never does 'get up and go' so this will mean a 9am start at the earliest (he takes about 30 mins to come to unless he has an important meeting or flight o get up for).
Shall I badger him to make it earlier or just hope for the best?
