going to majorca on friday for a week; not been to spain for a few years now. are travellers cheques still the safest option these days and how much does it usually cost to change them?

I never use travellers cheques I take my cashpoint card and just withdraw cash as and when I need it .. yes you get charged interest but for holiday money you're talking a couple of quid which you'd pay anyway

We don't bother with travellers' cheques anymore. We usually take 200 - 300 euros cash and use cash card in ATM machines.

article here about best ways to spend abroad & cash card charges

Too late for you I'm afraid alibo but in case anyone else is reading this - I can't recommend the flexaccount by nationwde highly enough. You can use cash machines or as a debit card without incurring any commission or transaction fee. It's the cheapest way to do money abroad and I suspect is in the article that gingerbear recommends.

ps I don't work for Nationwide

Debit card (cashpoint card) plus a credit card just in case.

Have never taken travellers cheques. Me & DH usually take about 200 euros each and then use cash machines but it only costs a couple of quid and we usually take enough out to last 2 or 3 days at a time. Be careful tho, in Lanzarote DH got confused about how many noughts to put at the end and cleared out our bank account! We had to ring the bank and ask for an overdraft as we hadn't got enough left in there for the direct debits that were going out. DH is a bit of a dozy arse tho
