Regulations in UK for car seats/booster seats

Can anyone advise? Am going back to the UK for a holiday tomorrow. DS (3.9 years, 20 kilo, 1.08 metres) has always used a car seat in the past in my parents car when they pick us up but last time it was looking too small. Is a booster seat OK for him now?
