Madrid in one day?

Anyone been to Madrid and got some suggetions for me of must see things to do in a day there? We'll be doing the Warner Bros Themepark on Friday and then exploring Madrid on Saturday (this week). Would love some suggestions suitable for me, DH and DS aged 8

Go on one of those red bus tours.

There's a lovely park with a boating lake. The Retiro I think it's called.

There is also a cable car ride.
