Really chuffed with myself went for an interview at Thames Valley University and got onto a Advances Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment. Really did not think I could get onto the course, but just scraped through with my GCSE's and NVQ's. Would love to hear from anyone in Surveying in Construction as this is my next step. My Diploma will be three years then I am currently torn between Building or Quantity Surveying but guessing experience and time will tell. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated ...

Just wanted to wish you congratulations. You'll probably get good advice for future plans at the Uni when you are there.

My son, who is studying civil engineering at Uni, was told by what he called an old engineer (reckon he was about 50) that it's best to be studying in a recession as, by the time you have finished it will hopefully be a boom again.

Thanks pippop thats what i was reckoning. In eight years i am sure the market would be more than flowing ! where is your son studying? is he enjoying it?

Manchester is his Uni and he has another year to go. Hopefully by then the market will be a bit better.

He does enjoy it and is doing really well (mostly gets Firsts in modules). He works really hard though.

I wish you lots of luck for the future.
