Uni fees - How much does it cost now?

Hi

I've just spent a frightening weekend with DH working out how much the next few years are going to cost us with our 3 children. We arrived at Uni age and then came to an abrupt halt as neither of us has any idea on the costs. We recieve no benefits and hence presume we would pay up!! Does anyone have any idea of how much it costs and if it is by year, different depending upon the course etc? TIA x

The fee for the academic year 2009/10 is £3,225.00 but some subjects are more than this. H'ever uni fees were capped by Labour at £3,000 plus inflation but is due to be reviewed I believe and it is expected that fees could rise substantially. This is a loan which is paid back after completion of the degree and only if earning £15K or above.

Thanks FranSanDisco! So realistically, it's a large loan of probably £20,000 ish total per child, taking changes and poss 4 yr course into account. We as parents can either pay for it up front, help pay for it or leave our children with large personal loans before taking on a mortgage. Oh joy - what a choice!

Students can get a tuition fee loan now and a maintenance laon. That's what DD2 is doing . The tuition loan is paid straight to the university and the maintenance laon is paid termly to the student.
