Hi can anyone advise me for my friend please........... The EMA people havent paid my friends daughter anything since she applied when starting college in September. They have now told my friend that they have lost her daughters application which includes her birth certificate. She is of course very angry and upset. She is waiting to speak to our local councillor who is away till Monday, Any other advice please??

She's not the only one from what I have heard.

Speak to the Councillor Monday, telephone the registrars today regarding a copy birth cert and get the application sorted: ask EMA to cover the costs of the cert- they might you never know.

Complain, but do so reservedly and carefully.

CAb might be a good stop off if you need it.

I have been to my school christmas bazaar and happened upon one of the mums who works for the education dept for our area, she was horrified to hear what has happened. her eldest daughter is friends with my friends youngest daughter(sister of one at college) and she is going to do what she can to help!

Unfortunately, when students do apply late (Sept) onwards, they never get the money before Nov at the earliest. We tell all our students that they must apply in May time, if they want to stand any chance of getting the money on time.

However, I understand that there has been one huge cock up this year - loads of our students have not had their money through yet, and it is almost Christmas bonus time! I understand that the company who pays out the money has been sacked, so hopefully it should get sorted soon. In the meantime, get in touch with the college about hardship funds - we have them, and lots of our students have been using them this year. I can only hope the sorry mess gets sorted out soon. It is worth noting though that with our students, it is mostly those students who applied late who have been having the most problems, and whilst this won't help your friends DD, it might help others to know that they must apply early, I know certain forms need to be completed on enrollment, but the initial application. HTH

She applied in August! and they still shouldnt have lost her birth certificate that is unforgivable! Thanks for the advice for others though!
