Hi, just wondering if anyone was doing this teaching course aswell, to chat and so on.

Hi tink123 - tomorrow I'm starting my PGCE in ESOL/Literacy. Really excited to be going back to college after four years of being a SAHM but also dreading having to write essays/engage brain/be oldest (by far!) in class!

nametaken · 30/09/2008 23:04

I'm doing PTLLS, which one are you doing?

kdk · 01/10/2008 11:19

The course I'm doing is the equivalent of DTLSS - just that because it's run by the Institute of Education, it's still called PGCE - post graduate certificate in education. Where are you doing your course - and how's it going?

tink123 · 01/10/2008 15:07

I am doing PTLLS but if I can arrange teaching practice, I am transferring to DTLLS course as early as next week. - all funded

Am really enjoying it!!!

Lucky you - where are you? I am self-funding - or will be when I get round to registering ... I'm waiting to hear where I'll be doing my teaching practice and also whether it will be a literacy or an ESOL placement as I'm doing a joint course.

Best of luck in finding teaching practice - let us know how you get on

charliechew · 03/10/2008 21:25

Hi,I'm doing the PGCE PCET (QTLS) and also the level 5 diploma in literacy -help>>>

kdk · 03/10/2008 21:53

Hi charliechew how are you finding it - I've just found out about my first placement - it's an embedded ESOL course for students doing a librarian/admin course so should be interesting. Start on Monday week - and getting a bit nervous

tillytoes · 03/07/2009 21:19

Hi I've just joined these boards and I know it sounds an awful cheek but would you be prepared to forward your PTLLS essays to me so I can have a look. I am really struggling with the course and have had some bereavements to deal with so any help would be very gratefuuly received.
Best wishes
Tillytoes x

Hi Tillytoes - what are you studying - I'm not sure I can help as the PGCE I'm studying includes PTLLS but specialises in the teaching of either literacy or ESOL so not sure if that would be relevant? Also would have to be very careful because of plagiarism issue.

Have you spoken to your course tutor regarding an extension or postponing due to personal problems?

Hope you manage to sort things - I know I've found the last year a b*gger!

I am thinking of doing this course. May start in March as that is when the next course is available at my local college. What is everyone's original degree in? Have you registered on Pass your skills?

kdk · 25/09/2009 21:31

Hi Spoo

Not registered with that site as it doesn't cover my specialism (adult literacy/ESOL) but it looks interesting.

My original degree is Communication Studies but gained it a fair few years ago.

I'm halfway through a two-year part-time PGCE (DTLLLS equivalent) and enjoying it although it is bl**dy hard work!

What subjects are you hoping to teach?

hi, ive done my PTTLS and im currantly on my CTTLS, i will help you if i can, what would you like to know ?

flinginghasflung · 04/01/2011 20:40

Those doing PGCE, do you have first degrees? I have done PTLLS, want to do QTLS ideally, but really want to get into teaching by September....but I don't have a degree. I do have years of training experience though. Help, what are my options? Websites are confusing me!

Melty · 26/01/2011 22:26

Fling, I did the PTLLS, then the DTLLS, finished last June. (So now have QTLS but in FE, can't do primary or secondary except Sixth Form Colleges)
I dont have a first degree either, as I trained as a nurse in the dark ages, and ended up with a certificate in Nursing.
Have various nursing courses at diploma level, and had no trouble with the course.

I wanted to do the PGCE but the college wouldnt allow me, as I didn't have a degree.
My supervisor at work thought it was bonkers.
I did my second year of the DTLLS through Canterbury & Christchurch, and my fantastic tutor told me that my work was easily PGCE level or above.
I am hoping to start my Masters in September. (The lead tutor had told me that my experience plus qualifications gained so far will be acceptable - just need to work on my personal statement now!)
Your best bet is to talk to someone at your local college who leads the DTLLS/PGCE.

doodlemama · 21/02/2011 17:30

Has anyone gone into FE teaching with just a ptlls qualification?

keepingupwiththejoneses · 04/03/2011 15:39

I am doing PTLLS and have my micro teach next week.
doodlemama my mum is an upholstery tutor in our local FE collage and she only has PTTLS and upholstery NVQ.

LIZS · 04/03/2011 15:45

You can certainly teach on Govt funded courses with just PTTLLS or even while you are on the course itself. Look beyond FE colleges to other providers such as WEA, U3A and whoever else provides Adult and Community Learning in your county/borough (check Council website) and for whom you could do sessional work.

doodlemama · 27/03/2011 17:27

Thanks keepingupwiththejoneses and LIZS for your replies. Really helpful pointers. I've never heard of WEA and U3A so will look into that too.

Hi all,
I have been reading the postings above. Very interesting and informative.
I am in the process of starting a training centre to deliver PTLLS and other courses. The centre is supposed to open on the 9th of May 2011 with its first set of PTLLS students. Unfortunately only one student has enrolled. I need at least three students to make it worthwhile. I am starting to panic now because time is approaching fast. I have advertised in various places including google and gumtree but nothing is happening. My fund is limited hence cannot afford to invest heavily in expensive advertising. I am worried that I will loose the one student that have enrolled if I cancel the course starting 9th May. I don't know what to do. Please help!!! Any ideas/suggestion will be welcomed.
