Was surprised to see Newcastle offer 3 grades lower for certain ethnic groups (state school, but no other socio economic criteria). Is anyone aware of any other unis doing this?

@labtest57 yes,really

Regional guarented and regional contextual

We are in Sunderland, a deprived postcode, and a normal comp. My daughter got the standard offer for her course. She didn't do Partner's or any other scheme though

SR1-SR9 included.
We didnt have to do anything (infact the Newcastle application was in before school told us it existed).

I would be surprised if this was legal, it is blatant race discrimination. I hope someone challenges it in court!

Well, best prepare to be surprised! It is discrimination, know as positive discrimination and is legal allowed under the equalities act! And it takes place a lot, in the workplace, on boards, in funding!

In law they realised that most judges were middle class, white men and that this may not be representative of demographic across the country. The law society not only advocates for positive discrimination....they changed the whole system! So not just those with family connections get pupillage! Anyone can! Women, ethnic minorities, the lot 😉
