TMUA preparation/ tutor

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone had any preparation resources or tips for the TMUA for this October please ?

If anyone can suggest any tutors also that would great. Thank you !

My son sat the TMUA in the last admissions cycle and got a 9.0. He found the official TMUA papers very useful, but also did MAT past papers and additional mock papers people have created online.

Timed practice was probably the biggest thing though, as the time pressure is a major part of the exam.

He does some TMUA tutoring now as well, so happy to pass on his details if that would be helpful.

Someone who scored 9.0 in the last cycle will have a lot to offer if he can communicate effectively with your DD. Only she can be the judge of that. (I am not being cynical - I tutored my way through UG studies after a similar start but the tutee, particularly at this age, needs to feel a sense of agency.)

I hope these options work for you. If they don’t, DD might consider joining the online forum The Student Room and enquiring for tutors with experience of the TMUA who can meet her where she is mathematically. This will work best if she puts a bit of thought into articulating what it is that she needs for her learning style.

If your DC is mathematically talented they shouldn't need a tutor. The key thing is practice practice practice past papers under the time pressures. My son said most mathematicians can work out the questions eventually but it is the short time they have that becomes the differentiator. There are so many resources and discussions online to look at.

Sometimes it is a matter of confidence, @Mapletreelane , particularly with girls.

Thank you. Unfortunately, my dd had to have a major operation in summer so she is still catching up from missed schoolwork . She doesn’t think she will be able to prepare for the TMUA for a couple more weeks.But when she does I will contact you. Thank you x
