My son is in 2nd year (exeter) and is struggling to find an engineering placement for next year. He has got to the last stage a few times but not been successful.
He will keep looking but is considering what to do if he doesnt get one. He definitely wants to finish his degree but he was looking forward to a year of work and a break from full-time studying. He also planned to use this year to earn enough for accommodation in his last year.
Has anyone any experience of asking uni for a gap year if a placement isn't found? I have had a look on their website and looks like pauses in studies can be allowed but its a bit vague on if this is in all cases or specific circumstances.
He will email student services and ask but was just looking for any info from anyone else who may have some experience in this.
My other worry is him finding a job for a year but will have to worry about that another time!
