Relieved here. She has her place confirmed at Sheffield.

Ah thanks for the advice mumneedswine. DD is in quite a quandary at the moment over her choices. She really didn't expect to get an A in maths (was the edexcel one). Sheffield were very lovely and welcoming when she did her interview - though she was slightly put off by the weather as it was a very rainy, cold day in February 😄So didn't see the city in it's best form.

Email UCL anyway. Accept Sheffield and then if doesn't work out no harm done. If grade changes and UCL say yes then decision to be made.

Sheffield is lovely. Near the hills, fantastic student stuff and great course. And currently cooler than the 36 it is in London at the moment !

Huge HUGE congratulations to all those who have smashed their grades and about to embark on their dream career! I hope they (& you!) enjoy their very well deserved celebrations! 🍾 🍾 🍾

Hope your dc manage to make a plan for their next steps once they've processed the information. It is such a hard path they have already tread to get this far.

Sheffield is one of the top cities for its graduates choosing to live there after university! It's a fantastic city for university and offers a massive range of choice for students.

As a Sheffield grad (and my DH too), we would concur with all the good things said about Sheffield. Sheffield was our insurance.

Congratulations to her! I'm a Lancaster graduate (not medicine) - which college has she asked for? I was Bowland!

Hi - she’s asked for Grizedale or County. Hard to know, they all looked pretty similar but I guess once you’re there, they take on their own identities!
Hope you enjoyed Lancaster!

Katyapup · 13/08/2026 14:36

MyGreyBiscuit · 13/08/2026 11:51

hello!!! So pleased to see everyone's good news. @Katyapup - so so sorry, will you be able to get some remarked? or reviewed??

We were so nervous, and so relieved, DS got his first choice, Queen Mary! :)

Yes, been advised to go down the re-mark route, we'll see I guess - that will determine whether resits are an option...my DD competed nationally in her sport, so I think maybe the impact of that was just a bit too much - a lesson learned that you can't always have it all! I am honestly so proud of her resilience though, she's handled it with grace and maturity.

Congrats to your DS in achieving his first choice, outstanding! It's honestly so lovely seeing the joy in everyone's posts🥳

Fairyfeet40 · 13/08/2026 14:56

DD accepted to her top choice of Plymouth. She is excited about the coast and paddle boarding after growing up in London. Well done to everyone and thinking of those who are struggling with disappointment. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions for over a year since UCAT started.

I did, but it's (deep breath) FIFTY years ago since I got my results and subsequently went up (my first day was October 4th, 1976!). I went back most recently 3 years ago for a look round and it's grown so much, I got lost!

I asked for Lonsdale and got Bowland, interestingly enough, though they're next door to each other on campus.

Yamyamabroad · 13/08/2026 15:36

Just coming out of lurking mode I was in your positions back in 2016. DS went off to his first choice of UEA and I remember the parental relief so well. He loved UEA and the medicine course really equipped him for a strong start in his career. He is now mid training in CT2.
Incidentally, I went to Lancaster graduating in 1984. Such a fabulous experience - its a well hidden secret gem university. County College rules 😆

Curlyshabtree · 13/08/2026 16:52

DD got A star A A and is off to her first choice Newcastle!
Congrats to all who made it through this brutal process!

crispy2019 · 13/08/2026 16:59

Well done everyone that got in and commiserations to those that didn’t. We missed the grades BBB…she’s devastated…does anyone have any words of wisdom about resits?

So sorry to hear your news - was she close to
an A in any? Would it be worth asking her teachers to look at the papers to see if you could do a review of marking to bump one or more to an A? Start researching which unis will accept resits - I know Sheffield do. Also find out what support there will be for her to resit - could you look into getting Uplearn for example to support?
It’s such a tough time - hope you are both ok

FruAashild · 13/08/2026 17:28

DD got into Sunderland with AAB, glad she got the UCAS confirmation saying she got her place before going into college to get the marks. We've had a nice lunch out to celebrate then she went to her friend's house for predrinks before hitting the town.

She was close to As on 2 papers but about 5/6 marks I think…not sure that will be enough…we will ask the teachers to review the papers though thank you

Definitely worth a look then - you can have each paper done separately to see too. Even if one could be an A then it would be less
for her to resit

Medicine becomes such a focus of life through the application process but I would take a bit of a deep breath over the next few days and then think about other options. There other great careers to consider; and definitely less stressful ones! Whilst not something perhaps for today, I do think it important to look beyond medicine rather than just thinking of routes to reapply. I always worry for people doing other degrees with the sole stated purpose of a GEM application.

Sound advice…she actually has an offer to do Economics at Liverpool…she has always really enjoyed that subject…it’s such a step change though…I’m hoping the next few days bring clarity

Peanuts79 · 13/08/2026 20:41

Congratulations to all those who got the results they hoped for today. I'm really sorry to those who didn't have the day planned - such a brutal process and they have all done incredibly well to get this far.

DD only had one offer for Exeter, A*AA and feels pretty bittersweet to achieve AAA today but miss this.

So we will go round again, sit the UCAT and apply with grades in hand. Lots of soul searching today, she had applied for deferred entry so hoping timeline remains the same with a few unplanned hurdles along the way.

Thefatbutteredpig · 13/08/2026 21:12

Congrats to all those dc who got in today.

And big hugs to those dc and parents whose day didn't go as planned.

Such a brutal and harsh all consuming process for our dc and their support teams.

Hopefully they can take stock, regroup and/or resit and come back stronger next year.

bluefineliner · 13/08/2026 21:20

So DD has a study tiktok account and was asked by BBC earlier if they could use her video of checking UCAS to see if she got in. Well they only went and used it on the BBC 6 o'clock news when introducing the A level result feature!!

So if any of you saw a screaming girl in a striped top tonight, that was my DD (and me in the background 😂). How bizarre!

Thanks for sharing that! I just found it too and loved watching it! Really hope that is me and my DD tomorrow when we open her UCAT results paper 😬wish us luck! 🤞

So sorry @crispy2019 - hope your daughter can make a decision that feels right for her. I guess it comes down to how passionate she feels about med - and how she feels about a year out?

And so close @Peanuts79 Getting 3 As is an amazing achievement, feels very wrong that’s not enough. Hopefully resitting 1 subject won’t be too much of a pain and she can still enjoy her year out.

Ha ha @bluefineliner That was quite a reaction from your DD - how funny it ended up on the news!
